I’ve heard this so many times. And all I every really want to say is ‘Why not?’
But to be completely honest its not as simple as that of course. I often hear from family friends or my peers and teachers that I could get a really good job in LA or in San Francisco. They say that New York is to expensive, to crowded, to competitive. They say that there are so many opportunities in LA and its less competitive and I could find a really great job I’ll love, and live in a nice home, and wear expensive clothes and drives nice cars. BUT ITS SO MUCH MORE THEN THAT. I don’t just want a nice car, a nice home, and nice clothes. A stable job? not even. I want the world. I want to be able to get a call in the middle of the night and be on a plane an hour later, not knowing where exactly the destination is. I want to walk around some unknown country and have a stranger know my name. I want my picture taken. I want to see that picture on a blog or in the paper the morning after. I want to walk to a newstand in the morning and flip to the pages that are filled with my hard work. I want people to shake my hand and tell me I’ve done so well.
New York to me is the gateway to the rest of the world! To make it in New York is to make it in Paris and Milan and London and all over Asia. I don’t just want to be successful and own materialistic things. I want the fame. I want everyone to know my name and the things I’ve accomplished.
and they will.
Struggles? Competition? I’ll get over them once the bulbs flash.
